Touches of Spring in the Living Room

This weekend I did some spring decorating in our living room.  Our mantel is my favorite thing in our living room... we actually have four mantels total downstairs! I purchased the picture above the mantel several years ago and it is still something I love.  Supposedly it was made locally with wool.

My seasonal decorating is simple, but I like to bring in a few elements that reflect the time of the year.

The fireplace is non-working, unfortunately.  When we moved in we removed the cover and exposed the beautiful brick and an old grate.  I quickly made the rabbit silhouette pillow on the chair this weekend with some scrap fabric.

The yellow fabric is so cheerful.

Yesterday I made this flower garland.  Ive had this idea for a while and finally went to our nearby quilt store to purchase some fabric.  Ill share the tutorial later this week.  It was such a fun project and I love the dimension it adds to the mantel!

The tin hanging on the wall was the cover we removed to expose the inside of the fireplace.

I couldnt help but cut a few more cherry blossom branches this weekend to bring into the living room.  The blossoms are so beautiful.

The firewood racks are original to the house.  We found them buried in the shed and I gave them a fresh coat of black paint and use them in the living room to store photo albums and scrapbooks.

A peek of our red couch.  Weve had it for years and I still love it!

Willow branches on the entryway table.  You can make the simple painted "grain sack" runner by following this tutorial.

A beautiful nest.

I love spring time and couldnt resist decorating for the season since we are having unusually warm and beautiful days!  We spent as much time outside this weekend as possible.  The girls and I enjoyed laying in the shade listening to the birds chirping.

Happy Spring!

Crowning the built in

The drywall repairs have been done, and the painting also.  We were able to go back this week and install the crown molding setup and the base trim.  Here are a few more pics.  Some final pics will be coming after the carpet and other finishes are done...

Weekend in Photos Project Update

This week we made a last minute plan to go to Disneyland on Friday. We wanted to go before school got out in hopes that it wouldnt be as busy. Turned out that it was grad night, so we were out of luck but we still had a great time!

Saturday we stopped at Ikea (of course). I wasnt really planning on getting anything, but then I remembered a few things that would be good for projects (always happens :)
Sunday we worked on our latest project that I briefly talked about last week. We started cutting driftwood last week and finished this weekend. It was A LOT of cutting!! We are done with the hard part, so hopefully we will have lots of progress/finished pictures a little later this week!

Deep in Chaos

Well, my shop is in a state of utter chaos. Id post a picture, but its too depressing.

I mentioned last month in the New Wood Rack post that I was overhauling the shop. Well, it has been creeping along, feeling like it will never be finished. Im only on "Phase 2" and it looks like a tornado went right through the shop.

What I find most disturbing is how unusable the shop is in its current state. Its hard to even move out there. Every time I have a few minutes to work on it, the sheer enormity of the project just overwhelms me. I need to keep plugging away at it, but its hard when I cant see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Alright, enough whining! Back to it!

Weekend in Photos and What Im Working on!

Im working on finishing up a few DIY projects and thought I would share a few images from my weekend.

We had breakfast Saturday morning next to this neat sign in Pismo, I love it when new places (now a yoga studio) keep the old signs!

We laid out a pattern on our new Danny Seo Jute runner ... and we painted a small dresser and the runner, almost done!

and last but not least, I wore my new ruby red slippers on Sunday to church!

Ill be back soon with finished photos of the rug and dresser! If you wish to follow me on Instagram, you can find me @sarahmdorseydesigns
